Steve’s Tukey Hunt & City Farm Update

Well he went, he hiked, he conquered! The story of Steve’s first successful turkey hunt and what he learned. The itch is just not quite scratched yet! He nabbed this bird 45 min into the first day of the season, didn’t get to use any of his calls or decoys. We are so thankful for this tom’s life and am grateful that his life will feed my children hormone free bird for at least four meals.

Whilst he was galivanting around the beautiful southern Oregon wilderness my mother and I muscled dirt to the garden space for this year’s garden! The chickens did exactly what they do best and threw it all over themselves and the enclosed garden space. The kids were elbow deep in the mix as well because, duh, it involved dirt.

The starts in the greenhouse are slow to come around thanks to the wacky weather, but there is still hope and we don’t put anything in the ground until May anyway… I will replant some of the seeds that haven’t seemed to take yet this week and hold my breath!

All of this has me feeling super confident that we are well on our way to lowering the grocery bill and eating sustainably from our little postage stamp of land!
